Journal Policy
PALAEONTOS is published at irregular intervals, but at least once in a
year with a total edition of at least 200 copies per title. They are
original monographs of 50 pages or more, containing new scientific
information. Smaller papers will be referred to a regular journal of
another publisher. Manuscripts should preferably be about a
macropalaeontological subject, such as mollusks, elasmobranchs,
ammonoids, echinoderms, etc. The number of plates is of no importance.
All manuscripts fitting this scope can be submitted to our board of
editors, who will give you the first feedback. When the manuscript is
considered original, it will be sent to two or more international
referees on whose judgement final acceptance will depend. Positive
judgment of referees is however no guarantee of final acceptance by the
editors.
Once a manuscript is accepted by the editors, it will be prepared for
printing. The first author of the manuscript will receive a proofprint
of the monograph, which he should read very carefully and return to the
editor as soon as possible. We always publish in the autumn of every
year, so the deadline for returning the proofprints is August 15th. Any
accepted manuscript received after this date, will be published in the
next year.It is strongly recommended that potential authors contact the
editor-in-chief in a very early stage of preparation of the manuscript
so that submission won’t falter. After publication the first
author will receive 15 copies free of charge of his paper or book.
Additional copies can be purchased at a reduced rate. Each of our
volumes is abstracted in the Zoological Records. Since we maintain an
exchange programm, each volume of PALAEONTOS is distributed worldwide.
PALAEOFOCUS is also published at irregular intervals. They are original
monographs of 50 pages or more, not containing new scientific
information. The content should treat e.g. the fauna of a locality,
which doesn’t contain anything new, but as such has never been
published before. Also an iconographic atlas of a taxonomic group or a
region will be considered. We insist on high quality of both content
and illustrations.Smaller papers will be referred to another publisher.

Authors' instructions
Authors should prepare their texts digitally, saved in WORD, with the
necessary headings, separations, italics, bolds, small capitals, etc.
Names of authors should be in small capitals, not in full capitals.
Names of genera and species should be in italics. Each manuscript
should have an abstract, key words, introduction, geological and
geographical setting, systematic part, conclusions, references and
legends to the plates. The text should be in English, but a large
abstract in another language is possible. If the text is not in
English, please contact the editor-in-chief for advice. The text should
be at least 50 pages and preferably not exceed 150 pages, but this is
no strict rule. Always prepare the text and title as concise as
possible.
Illustrations (maps, tables, graphs, plates, drawings, etc.) should be
prepared on high quality and saved each as a separate file. These files
should be TIFF files of at least 300dpi. Please do not insert any
illustration in the text, but mark the place in the text where the
corresponding illustration / table should be inserted! Tables can be
submitted as a separate EXCELL file.
All the files should be submitted electronically on a CD or DVD. We do
not need a hard copy for submission. Please avoid sending large files
via e-mail.
The number of illustration / plates is not important, but they should
be of good quality and black/white. If colour printing is desired,
please contact us first before submitting. In this case, the board of
editors may request the author to participate in the cost of printing.
All papers will be refereed (for PALAEONTOS) or sent to a specialist
for reading (for PALAEOFOCUS). After acceptance, authors will be asked
to sign an author’s contract with the association. They of course
will retain the intellectual authorship of the manuscript. Publication
is free of charge, except sometimes in the case of colour printing.
Membership of Palaeo Publishing & Library vzw is not required to
publish with us.We publish on high quality glossy paper so as to secure
the quality of the illustrations. All our books are bound.

Exchange
programm
Since the aim of our association is to build up a scientific library,
we invite other institutions, museums or associations to exchange their
palaeontological journals or publications for our Palaeontos, which
will be sent once a year after publication. Our other publications,
Palaeofocus and the books, are not part of the exchange programm,
unless after agreement with us. Although we prefer to receive journals
in the field of palaeontology; we also accept publications which are
not part of a series, such as special volumes or books, but always
dedicated to palaeontology or with a large portion devoted to
palaeontology.
